I am thrilled to introduce Yonni Wattenmaker, the founder of Yon Appetit. A serious health crisis turned her love of cooking into a passion for helping others feel their very best.
Yonni struggled for years with an eating disorder. After experimenting with various diets and workouts, she was told the only solution was to follow a strict, plant-based diet. This new way of eating (and living) helped her heal and sparked a passion for creating delicious recipes for herself and her family. Yonni’s newly created healthy meals were so delicious that friends and family wanted the recipes! Encouraged by the feedback, she trained at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition, created her own website www.yonappetit.com, and began a new life mission.
If you are interested in healthy, original recipes and overall wellness tips, check out her site. If you would like to achieve a healthier lifestyle and learn more from Yonni herself, she is giving away a FREE one-hour personalized health coaching session, valued at $200 (each). Just head on over to instagram and do three things: Follow Starling Skincare, follow @YonAppetit, and ‘like” the Starling x @YonAppetit post to be automatically entered in the contest.
A consult with Yonni isn’t just for those interested in plant-based meals and advice! Yonni has a broad base of nutritional expertise and her goal is to give every client a personalized, realistic and sustainable nutritional meal plan.
They say beauty is skin deep, but did you know skin health goes deeper...to your stomach?
Certain foods have properties that help give you that healthy clear youthful glow and these are just a few of our favorites!
Olive oil contains vitamins A, D, E, and K, antioxidants that help with premature aging, and can protect the skin. It can also strengthen skin defense against free radical damage and has even been effective in treating bacterial infections of the skin.
Carrots contain vitamin A (a relative of anti-aging retinol), aiding in the production of new, healthy skin cells. It helps slow the skin’s aging process by decreasing collagen breakdown, resulting in less fine lines and wrinkles and promoting firmness and elasticity. The beta carotene in carrots that turns their skin orange, also helps to brighten your skin and make it glow.
The natural oils in avocados can be used in masks to nourish, soften and hydrate the skin. Like olive oil, it has vitamins E and C so it can also help to reduce fine lines and wrinkles as a result of that hydration.
So what one delicious way to combine those three, with other healthy plant-based whole foods?
Roasted Carrot Hummus!
1 bunch organic carrots, washed, ends removed and chopped (peeled if you like)
1 can organic chickpeas, unsalted
1 tsp Za’atar seasoning
Pinch Pink Himalayan salt
Generous pinch Kosher salt
2 TBSP Tahini
2 TBSP Olive Oil
1 lemon, juice only plus 1/2 lemon, juice only
Sesame seeds and dill for garnish
Drizzle with avocado oil, Za’atar and Himalayan salt and roast at 400 for 20-25 minutes (making sure they don’t burn.)
Drain the liquid of a can of chickpeas into a sauté pan. Heat the liquid while you put the rest of the chickpeas into a Cuisinart or high powered blender.
Add the carrots, tahini, olive oil, kosher salt and the juice of one lemon to the chickpeas. Next add the hot chickpea liquid and purée it all until smooth.
Season with more lemon and salt to your taste, and top with sesame seeds and fresh dill. Enjoy with fresh crudité and sliced, baked pita or gluten free toast points.
